Our community has experienced record sales tax revenues over several years because of the thriving economy. Since sales tax is discretionary, it only occurs when an individual voluntarily purchases something which the state requires sales tax to be applied. Sales tax was approved by the voters of Midland County. Midland County has benefited from the many individuals that come here to work, visit, sell products, and provide services to our community either directly or indirectly from venues and/or events in our area.
It is this activity that has allowed Midland County to invest in long term assets for our citizens. Midland County has responded to community studies and citizens’ requests and has invested in roads, libraries, and economic generators like the multi-purpose facility. There is no debt on any of these facilities or improvements.
Midland County now operates 49+% of its budget with sales tax and 38% with property tax.
